In the late 1980's Alice and her husband Lloyd realized the need to diversify
their grain/livestock operation. They wanted something that would fit easily
into their current operation and was still within the realms of agriculture.
After researching several possibilities, alpacas were the animal of choice.
These easy-to-care-for animals that produce a beautiful highly sought after
luxury fibre are now an integral part of the Groeneveld's farming operation.
From the outset, Alice, an experienced knitter and crocheter, had the alpaca fibre processed into yarn and was selling everything that could be produced. In 1994, Alice decided to leave her off-farm accounting job as she was spending more and more time working with the alpaca fibre and loving every minute. She made the decision to spend her time developing the fibre end of their alpaca business and formed Alpaca Plus Inc. In 1997, the first major project was to print a small catalogue - the yarn, kits, insoles, and so on - and establish the mail order part of the business.
In 1999, this website became part of the business plan. This gives Alice the flexibility that she likes to maintain. The next step that Alice embarked upon was very exciting for her. In the fall of 2003, Alice opened "The Alpaca Plus" studio on the farm.

"It's a place where ors can come and see, touch and feel the wonderful yarns and garments made from the alpacas which are grazing in the pastures beside the studio - a tranquil rural setting for visitors to come and spend time ... see the animals in their home environment and work with the alpaca fibre."
Alpaca Plus Inc. has become a true labour of love for Alice, she sees the possibilities for alpaca as endless.
